The month of June, how did I do... 2 books! And I thought I did bad last month!

1. The Twisted Tale of Stormy Gale by Christine Bell (NetGalley)
2. The Four Ms. Bradwells by Meg Waite Clayton (GIFT/OWN)

However in my defense I did do the Author's A to Z Challenge and I did pretty damn good! Next year I hope to be a better participate. But this year I did pretty fabulous and so here is a break down

Letter A - Louisa May Alcott and Jane Austen
Letter B - Emily Bronte
Letter C - Alison Croggon and Cassandra Clare
Letter D - Cameron Dokey
Letter E - Patricia Elliot
Letter F - Becca Fitzpatrick
Letter G - Elizabeth Gaskell
Letter H - Anthony Horowitz
Letter I - Washington Irving
Letter J - Michelle Jaffe
Letter K - Lauren Kate
Letter L - C.S. Lewis
Letter M - Melissa Marr
Letter N - Alyson Noel
Letter O - George Orwell
Letter P - Christopher Paolini
Letter Q - couldn't find nothing
Letter R - Rick Riordan
Letter S - L.J. Smith
Letter T - Natsuki Takaya and Yana Toboso
Letter U - Hal Urban
Letter V - Laurie Viera Rigler
Letter W - Brent Weeks
Letter X - hahaha apparently I completely skipped X but just noticed now :(
Letter Y - started with just a poem, but in the end I found Suzanne Young
Letter Z - no author, just a poem

Not a very epic ending. I missed three letters "Q", "X", and "Z".

Thanks Proud Book Nerd for letting me participate! It was fun, can't wait for next year :)

by Jessica Spotswood
hitting shelves February 2012 from Putnam BFYR

Cate Cahill and her sisters are considered eccentric bluestockings—a little odd, a little unfashionable, and far too educated for their own good. The truth is more complicated; they’re witches. And if their secret is discovered by the priests of the Brotherhood, it could mean an asylum, a prison ship—or an early grave. Before their mother died, she entrusted Cate with keeping them safe and keeping everyone, including their father, in the dark about their powers. When her father employs a governess and Cate begins to receive notes from her missing, presumed-mad godmother, her task becomes much more difficult. As Cate searches for answers in banned books and rebellious new friends, she must juggle unwanted proposals, tea parties, and an illicit attraction to the new gardener. Cate will do anything to protect her sisters, but at what cost to herself?

Letter Y

I am at a loss for Authors for letter Y, so instead I am doing a poem or writing I once found many years ago. That has many Y's in it. I do not know the author. If you do, please let me know

You Tell on Yourself
You tell on yourself by the friends you seek,
by the very manner in which you speak
by the way you employ your leisure time,
by the use you make of dollar and dime.

You tell what you are by the things you wear,
by the spirit in which you burdens bear,
by the kind of things at which you laugh,
by the records you play on the phonograph.

You tell what you are by the way you walk,
by the things of which you delight to talk,
by the manner in which you bear defeat,
by so simple a thing as how you eat,
by the books you choose from the well-filled shelf,
in these ways and more, you tell on yourself.

EDIT: Suzanne Young - Who wrote A Need So Beautiful (not the poem above, just a book)
I have not read this book, but it sounds amazing and has been added to my TBR List. Read the Fantastic Book Review's blog for her review of the book

When I first got this book, it had been a while since I had read Proud Book Nerds review. So I was expecting a super fun light read about four women and their lives. What I got was something completely different.

This book is very deep and covers some very feminist issues. For starters the opening page starts with

"You must be the change you wish to see in the world." by Mahatma Gandhi

for some reason, this quote really stumped me and before I had actually begun reading the book, I set down all my reading for two days and thought about this quote. What kind of change do I want to bring to this world?

Overall I very much enjoyed this story and I don't want to give much away but if you are looking for a deep read and something about feminist rights I would definitely pick this book up. I would like to mentioned I loved their nickname! How fun and cute is that! I would love to have three friends to do that with!

I did a Teaser Tuesday for this book and here is another quote I wrote down

"Ms. Ginger Decisis-Bradwell with her unchanging opinions; Sergeant Mia Terrorist-Bradwell, who Professor Jarrett brought in whenever he introduced violence to a hypothetical; Ms. Betts Drug-Lord-Bradwell, the improbable Drug Lord of Section Four; and me, Ms. Laney Cicero-Bradwell, Tapped for every Latin translation the rest of the class whiffed on all year."

Thank you Proud Book Nerd for sending me this book!

I went through looked and looked to see if I had read any books by an author with the last name starting with 'I'. No luck. So what I decided to do was find some classic books and author's with last names that match what I need. My goal is to read 12 Classic books this year and I get to hear about someone I haven't before! The difference with this author is I have read his book before.

Actually way back in Grade 12, I was the assistant back stage manager of the high school play of Sleepy Hollow! Here's my favorite picture from that time! Gorgeous (who just got married) and my sister (the Golden Child) is the one with the Beard!
 Here is a picture from the set!
What a great time we had! I will definitely never forget Washington Irving's short story!

I have read Six Anthony Horowitz books. I have one left of the series to read!
I love his adventures

So... this book was something I have always imagined. Me, a young kid, suddenly becoming a spy and doing dangerous work, betting all odds and coming out on top. Shooting bad guys and saving millions of people's lives. AKA James Bond, but the female version! Of course this book was from the view of Alex Rider, who is definitely male. He's a young double 0 seven.

The Twisted Tale of Stormy Gale by Christine Bell

Release Date: April 25 2011
Publisher: Carina Press
Received from: NetGalley
Rating:4
Cover Thoughts: Interesting. Is the gold piece a ring? Or what??
My Review:
I read the back of the book and thought "Oh, great another smutch book." And as usual I decided to give it a try. Most of the time I end up putting the book down, not finishing it and refusing to read. This time.

It's such a short book. Like 77 pages. I read it so fast and there was only one scene, but it actually felt like it fit as part of the story instead of forced like usual. At first the title completely confused me. But it makes sense and ties in really well with the characters.

Even though it's super short. It's still a fun, quick whirlwind of a book and I definitely recommend it.

Christine Bell, is good at tying up all loose ends, but at the same time keeping you very interested and all done in 77 pages!

I went through looked and looked to see if I had read any books by an author with the last name starting with 'G'. No luck. So what I decided to do was find some classic books and author's with last names that match what I need. My goal is to read 12 Classic books this year and I get to hear about someone I haven't before! SO
Elizabeth Gaskell
(29 September 1810 – 12 November 1865), often referred to simply as Mrs Gaskell, was a British novelist and short story writer during the Victorian era. Her novels offer a detailed portrait of the lives of many strata of society, including the very poor, and as such are of interest to social historians as well as lovers of literature.

She wrote
    * Mary Barton (1848)
    * Cranford (1851–3)
    * Ruth (1853)
    * North and South (1854–5)
    * Sylvia's Lovers (1863)
    * Wives and Daughters: An Everyday Story (1865)
