Black Bulter Vol 1 by Yana Toboso

There's a reason I never read/buy manga. There's so much of it!! It's almost a never ending series.

I have seen this series everywhere recently Black Bulter and when I found it at chapters. Well I just had to peek and now I'm hooked! I can not wait to pick up vol 2!

So what did I like about this book. The Food! The Art! the Characters!! I had allot of fun reading it. I definitely want to know more about Sebastian and Ciel and their relationship. Oh and I want to know more about the ring and Ciel's fiance. Really this book just felt like a just got a 20 minutes episode of the show, but now I have to wait until next week to find out more! I am so impatient.

I really enjoyed it and want to pick up the next book as soon as I can!! (tomorrow hopefully!)

the short second life of bree tanner by Stephenie Meyer

As you may know I am not a Twilight fan. So you may be wondering why I would even pick up a Stephenie Meyer book. I am not sure why I picked it up. But I like to believe that while an author can write a bad book series, they can still write good books. Stephenie Meyers is a decent author. She doesn't write anything spectacular, nor do her books invoke deep thinking and her idea of vampires is completely wrong. The lady can still write a decent story. (I believe my comment on her short story was "Now why couldn't Stephenie Meyer write this story out fully instead of stupid Twilight. Interesting story."

This one for example, I really enjoyed. Bree is a fabulous character one I really enjoyed reading about. We first met Bree in the Twilight books actually I believe it's in Eclipse, for about two minutes. Before she ends up dieing. It was a great change reading from someone else's perspective of Bella.

Bree's discovery of herself and learning how she was changed. It was nice. It was super nice learning the details of the attack on Cullens.

Anyways it was a pretty decent book I read in less than two hours. To bad Stephenie Meyer's doesn't just stick to short stories.

Goodreads description: "Portrays a terrifying vision of life in the future when a totalitarian government, considered a "Negative Utopia," watches over all citizens and directs all activities, becoming more powerful as time goes by."

This is this months book club choice. It's also one of my co-workers favorite books. It's in Chapters top twenty and currently sold out in most stores due to the high schools in this area making this book an assignment.

This is a classic. A different type of classic from my usual Jane Austen. And I have to say I am super glad it wasn't in Jane Austen style of writing, it is much more Americanized.

I finished this last night in the tub. I don't know how to review this book. I have very mixed feelings on it. Lets see.

I HATE HATE the ending GAH.

I loved loved the middle section.

I found it extremely hard to relate to the main character (come on his a thirty-nine year-old man... no connection there)

I can understand what the world is like, because as much as mine childhood wasn't quite that harsh, there are very many similarities. And I can totally see why my Dad freaks out about Big Brother watching.

I am extremely surprised the book even got published. For what is written in it, for it's time and even for people like my parents now, it is quite the extremist book.

I can't decide if I like it

George Orwell must have had a pretty fucked up childhood.

I am curious as to what people will say tonight at book club. It will be a very interesting. I am extremely interested to see what other people's thoughts are. One thing I am extremely interested in is what the High Schoolers are expected to write on this book. And well I definitely want to research George Orwell a little more to find out what he is like. My co-worker was saying that he based the book of his experience in boarding school. But I don't know that for a fact. I am also curious about what the Sparks Notes will say. I might just go find those again!

Happy Friday and good luck reading this weekend!

If you have to Cry Go Outside by Kelly Cutrone

COMMENT
and other things your mother never told you

I bought this book because ...Love Maegan wrote about it. It was a really long time ago, and I have searched for her post about the book but I can not find it. Which kinda makes me sad, but on to my thoughts.
I am gonna share tons of quote from this book, because there is just so much I love about this book. The main thing I love about this book though is TRUTH. She states in there so many times that she DOES not lie. Will not lie. Not only does she think it’s totally not worth the time it takes to lie, but she builds her reputation on not lying.
I used to be a horrendous lier. It was way easier to lie to my family the to tell them the truth. By lying I got out of trouble and I prevented my parents from throwing a huge fit because at the time I believed they won’t be able to handle the truth. I still believe they won’t have been able to handle the truth and if I had told them how I felt truly at the time. They won’t have taken it very well and would have sent me off to major church counseling.
I had/have become so good at lying it’s almost second nature to me. And it shouldn't be. Lying can especially ruin my relationship with Mr. Truth is extremely important. And whether Kelly Cutrone realized it or not, her rants on truth, while sometimes take her off the topic of the chapter are really good and well helpful to me. It hit home.
On one side I really connect with her as I understand the religious background and getting away from the ‘dream’ your parents have for you. My parents claim they never conditioned me for getting married, but they certainly threw a hissy fit when I didn’t/don’t do things in a more traditional way.
”For women, life is set up like a video game. It starts out in childhood with the Disney princesses, followed by the need to become the  prettiest girl, the pop star, or the model, and then, in high school, we’re told that it’s time to become the thinnest girl, then to become successful, find a guy, convince him to move in with us, get married, have a baby, and live happily ever after! (Hell, yeah!) We’re constantly moving from level to level, trying to collect the promised prizes, without stopping to think about the order we want these things to come in, or whether we even really want them at all. From Cinderella right on up to He’s Just Not That into You, we’re inundated with programming that influences how and when we think we should experience various life steps and that makes it devastating when we find ourselves in another position altogether. Man of us grew up with our mothers literally serenading us with the words: First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes a baby in a baby carriage. Yes, our own mothers! The life-bringers themselves are in on this conspiracy.” pg 99

I have come along way in the last 5 years. And when Kelly said
”examine your real reasons for going along with these expectations” pg 122
It just makes me think of all the things I have done because it’s what my parents or friends expected of me or wanted me to do. It wasn’t something I was wanting to do. It wasn’t something that made me feel alive and excited. It definitely was something that put me in a dream like state just to get by. It burn out some of my dreams. I once dreamed of being a cop and joining the CIA and working my ass off to catch the bad guys. I have always waited to be super fit for these reasons. But family said that wasn’t possible, it was to much for a girl, that I couldn’t handle it. And I have let them tear me down to the point that my body is no longer fit and I will have to work so much harder to ever even come close to that goal. I might not become exactly that now (I want to stay out of the way of a bullet, I have something to live for now), but I definitely want to be fit enough to try out some Criminology classes. And while I may not have told Mr. all of this, and he might think I am completely crazy, I know for a fact that he would be 100% supportive and help me achieve that.
I have strayed off the topic of the book. I have a feeling I will be doing this allot.
”It’s time to figure out what you are selling and how you are going to make people want to buy it. In thinking about this question, consider your whole self, and don’t be afraid to embrace everything that makes you unique.” pg 130

Who am I?? What is my goal?? What am I trying to do??
”why must all female investment bankers wear pencil skirts and pearls and carry Tod’s bags?” pg 131

Kelly covers allot of topics. From breaking out of the model your parents have created for you, to finding your own self-worth and religion, to how to do your job and how to work with your boss.
”If you sell yourself as a hyper-organized, type A go-getter, that’s what you should be as an employee. If you sell yourself as a creative wellspring of ideas, well, you’d better believe your boss is going to want to hear them regularly.”pg 139

Makes me extremely curious as to what kind of person I showed my boss. How do I even sell myself to my boss. Did she hire me due to the previous training in the role or did she hire me because she honestly thought I was the best one for it? And why did she think that, if she did?? Today I have a meeting with my boss, regarding role-playing and scripting for referrals and making appointments. As well she wanted me to come up with a new system for handling incoming documents, so we stop having stuff go missing. It feels to me that since I have taken over all of a sudden we are having double booked appointments, random people showing up for appointments and tons of missing documents. Did this happen before or is it just since I took over the role.

pg 156

I know I have shared allot of quotes and that this is becoming a really long book review. But I feel like I am not even close yet! There is just so much in this book and I just want to share it all with you!
”The more successful you become, the more people will project their fears and hatred onto you. This is true for anyone, but it is particularly true of women who dare to speak their minds or assume leadership.”pg 182

I plan on becoming successful. One of the reasons I read self-help books is to have a better understanding of myself and who I want to become and become better at disciplining myself and learn from successful people how to become successful!
But let’s face it:women have not exactly been wallflowers throughout history. Powerful women are not an invention of feminism or the twentieth century. Take Cleopatra, who rose to power in Egypt through some combination of smarts and brutality and sex appeal, or Hatshepsut, also of Egypt, who was one of the most powerful women in the world by 1492 BCE. The ancient world and ancient belief systems are full of examples of women who were both fierce and loving, both power brokers and peacemakers. It was only with the rise of more recent religions like Christianity and Islam that women were veiled and screwed into believing they were inferior and powerless and stuck. (“All these breasts are really distracting us from our important holy work; let’s make these women cover up, or better yet, let’s get rid of them entirely!”)” pg 182-183

I really enjoyed Kelly’s take on the word Bitch. Instead of allowing the word to become a negative thing, something harmful. She uses the word to benefit herself
"Truth be told, I have never seen "bitch" as a bad word. Instead I see the word for what it is: a reflection of people's lack of creativity and inability to acknowledge and embrace a powerful woman." pg 185

So this is a super long post. I hope you enjoyed it, if you made it this far. I am definitely going to be reading this book again. Happy Friday!

Some things Kelly mentioned that I am curious and want to study up on.
Kelly’s “religion”
- Universal Mother
I really can’t explain the Universal Mother in words. If we sad down and held hands together in meditation as women, we might be able to feel her truth, wisdom, and power. But no alphabet will do her justice, though people have tried over time: Mexicans call her Guadeloupe, the Christians call her Mary, the Egyptians call her Cleopatra, the Greeks call her Athena, the Buddhists call her Tara, and the Hindus call her by several names, from Lakshmi to Durga.”

- Hinduism
"But in Hinduism, for example, the feminine is represented by four different goddesses: one who brings grace and light (Maheshwari), one who destroys everything that is false (Kali), one who creates beauty out of what is left (Lakshmi), and one who puts everything in its place (Saraswati)." 184 pg

The Book of Spells a Private Prequel by Kate Brian

COMMENTS
This book is a Prequel for a Series called Private by Kate Brian. What attract me to this book definitely was the cover. As much as I hate snow, her beautiful black hair against the snow white treed background, is so beautiful.

I had some time to blow and so I went to Chapters. Chapters is definitely one of my favorite places to be. Especially because I can get a wonderful tea and read to my hearts content! As said I grab this book due to it's cover. But the synopsis is wonderful

Charming Girls.Find Breeding.
Perfect Manners.
Black Magic.

The Billings School,
Established in 1915,
Where the girls are Witches.
The book starts off really slow. But I was just so curious I just kept reading and thinking about it. Plus I really enjoyed Eliza and Theresa as characters. As much as they were sometimes annoying. And I wanted to know the big secret behind Helen.

This isn't much of a review. What happens with Catherine is just so weird, and well I am not gonna spoil. It but this was a super fun light read that I really enjoyed!

The Little Women

A twist in time gives Emily the power to fix Little Women. Oh, where to begin!

Emily is sick and tired of being a middle sister. So when she gets an assignment to describe what she'd change about a classic novel, Emily pounces on Little Women. After all, if she can't change things in her own family, maybe she can bring a little justice to the March sisters. (Kill off Beth? Have cute Laurie wind up with Amy instead of Jo? What was Louisa May Alcott thinking?!) But when Emily gets mysteriously transported into the 1850s world of the book, she discovers that righting fictional wrongs won't be easy. And after being immersed in a time and place so different from her own, it may be Emily—not the four March sisters—who undergoes the most surprising change of all. Lauren Baratz-Logsted's winning confection will appeal to fans of Little Women as well as anyone who enjoys a modern twist on an old favorite.

Cinderella: Ninja Warrior (Twisted Tales, book 1) by Maureen McGowan

Release Date: April 1 2011

Received from: NetGalley
Rating: 4
Cover Thoughts: LOVE! Pretty dress! Though my EReader shows the image in black and white and I almost like it better that way

My Review: I have never quite read a book like this before. Before you start reading there is a section called "How to Read this Book". And it informed me of an interesting twist. Instead of just a story. You get to choose the characters discussion and now the book has become an Interactive Story. I have never read this kind of book and at first I didn't like the idea. I don't want to make decisions when I am reading. But I did really enjoy this book.

It's called Twisted Tales for a reason. Our dear Cinderella a NINJA!! To funny! It was hilarious and quite entertaining. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. The use of magic is very interesting and well put into the story.

The first decision you have to make I choose option 2. I thoroughly enjoyed Cinderella meeting a new character and showing off skills. While parts did just seem a little unrealistic. I went into the story knowing it was a fantasy story. After-all she is barely 13 in this book and if you know the Cinderella story, you know how it ends. That is a little to young for me.

The second decision I choose 2 again. I really enjoyed meeting Max and I loved how everything turned out!!

Third decision... I again choose 2. I think that was the most popular choose for me!! I really enjoyed this section! Seriously that is quite the skill she has gathered and OH so interesting!

And that was all the decision you really had to make! That I had with the options I choose anyways! :) I am going to go back and read through options 1, but I think that will be another post! I think this is definitely a book I will be buying!

The Ending... well it's Cinderella! :)

Cinderella's shoulders quivered with fatigue as she tipped the twenty-seventh wooden bucket into her stepmother's bath. The water, laced with sweet-smelling oils, sloshed up the tub's copper sides, threatening to spill over the edges and onto the sparkling clean floor beneath - a floor she'd have to mop and wax again if the hot water escaped.

Here Lies Bridget by Paige Harbison

COMMENT
Release Date: February 1 2011
Publisher: Harlequin Teen
Received from: NetGalley
Rating: 2.5
Cover Thoughts: I always grab a book due to it's cover!

My Review: I completely hated this book. However, I did read the whole thing. It's 219 pages long and the part I did enjoy was when we were seeing Bridget, the main character, through the eyes of Liam and Meredith.

That being said I don't think your suppose to like Bridget. The chick is awful. The high school blonde &%$#, is what she is and as I was reading it I saw so much of my sister the Golden Child, it was rather scary. I did not like reading about what she did to everyone. I could hardly stand the girl. When I finally did put the book down, I told Mr. that if I acted like a bitch it was due to the book majorly frustrating me and he needed to call me on it right away.

I did and didn't like the end. SPOILER I like that she apologized and that one character said that they could no longer be friends. That was a major issue for me, their relationship how toxic it was and I am glad that the character finally stood up for herself. Meredith's (another character) reaction was exactly what Bridget needed, because even though Bridget was a completely pain, she still needs someone to love her and Meredith was perfect for that role. Liam's reaction well pissed me off, but at the same time was completely understandable. I almost would have liked her not to have passed the test, Bridget that is.This sounds a little cryptic, I don't want to give to much away.

It was an interesting read, but I would never read it again. I like happy books, happy characters. I have enough horrible people in my life that I don't want to read about one. Those horrible people in my life are only there because they can't be removed.

I don't want to leave off with such a horrible review. Paige Harbison writing was really good. She made your feel the emotions, even though I couldn't connect with the main character you felt what the minor characters were going through. I would definitely read another one of Paige's books, hopefully one with a much nicer main character. Actually I would be interested in reading the character (who I am not naming, just because) that told Bridget they could no longer be friends, I would love to read about what happened to her afterwards. That would be a very interesting story.

P.S. A better review than mine at the Reading Angel

Lost Voices by Sarah Porter

Release Date: July 4 2011

Rating: 4 Stars
Cover Thoughts: definitely pulled me in!

My Review: Mermaids... something I have never read about before and for a first time read this was definitely a good pick. Sarah Porter really brought the mermaid life alive for me. Especially the singing, singing was such a major play in this book. It really made me wish the book came with a CD of someone singing the songs Luce sings. The descriptions... well I don't know actually it felt like there wasn't descriptions but it the music was describe. It's weird.

While I couldn't relate to Luce in someways. Mostly on the horrible things that happened to her. The crap she takes afterwards when another character joins her group. Well she is just like me. I would do exactly that and eventually I would snap too. But I think I am getting ahead of myself.

How the girls become mermaids is so interesting. Not so much the reason why, but more it doesn't matter where they are, they just become liquid and float through until they reach salt water.

Oh I really enjoyed this story, I could not put it down and when I had to put it down I was thinking about it!! What a great book to start off the year!

This book is the first of it's series, I have no idea when a second book is coming out, but I definitely can't wait!!

Happy Reading!
