Confessions of a Jane Austen Addict by Laurie Viera Rigler

COMMENT
I have attempted this book once before. But I found I could not focus at all and I didn't understand anything the characters were talking about. And even though this book is based on Mansfield Park by Jane Austen, which I have yet to read. I still find I could understand almost everything just be reading a few others of Austen's and so many of the movie adaptions.

Confessions of a Jane Austen Addict was such a good book! What Courtney goes through is exactly what I would go through. I could relate to her on all things. In fact most of the time it was like I was in my own imagination after reading one of Jane Austen's books or watching a movie adaption.

I really enjoyed this book and read it in a few hours, late into the night! When I should have been getting my beauty rest for work! But I was just so intrigued. Laurie Viera Rigler does the descriptions so well. Like Courtney's awe of visiting baths and Pemberely and how she quotes different parts of the book.

I do feel like it ended rather abruptly. Feel a little flat for me in the end. I wanted/want more. So I am pretty excited that Laurie wrote Rude Awakenings of a Jane Austen Addict, because I am hoping for more and just as good!!

And just a random thing, I LOVE how she describe smells and all the things you don't see in movie adaptions or the things not mentioned in books. Like monthly courses, chamber pots, and bathing. Truly hilarious at times!! Anyways I love reading and things just makes me want to devourer more of Jane Austen's books and become an authentic fan!!

I've always loved this series!!
At the start of Awakened, the pulse-pounding eighth installment of the bestselling House of Night series, Zoey has returned, mostly whole, from the Otherworld to her rightful place as High Priestess at the House of Night. Her friends are just glad to have her back, but after losing her human consort, Heath, will Zoey - or her relationship with her super-hot Warrior, Stark - ever be the same? Stevie Rae is drawn even closer to Rephaim, the Raven Mocker with whom she shares a mysterious and powerful Imprint, but he is a dangerous secret that isolates her from her school, her red fledglings, and even her best friends. When the dark threat of Neferet - who is coming closer and closer to achieving her twisted goal of immortality - and Kalona returns, what will it take to keep the House of Night from being lost forever, and what will one desperate girl do to keep her heart from being irreparably broken?
Awakened release date January 4 2011

Always a Witch is a two book series called Witch. I don't know yet if there is a third and I really hope there is as I really enjoyed this story. I have not read Once a Witch, which is book one of the series, but hope to acquire it soon. I have had this book for a while so I don't remember what site lead me to wanting to read it, but what original lead me to want to read it (besides the great synopsis) was the cover. Look how beautiful the cover is, she looks so lonely and well I love gorgeous dresses!!

The Synopsis according to goodreads
The adventures of Tam and Gabriel continue with more time travel, Talents, spy work, and of course, the evil Knights.
Since the gripping conclusion of Once A Witch, Tamsin Greene has been haunted by her grandmother's prophecy that she will soon be forced to make a crucial decision—one so terrible that it could harm her family forever. When she discovers that her enemy, Alistair Knight, went back in time to Victorian-era New York in order to destroy her family, Tamsin is forced to follow him into the past. Stranded all alone in the nineteenth century, Tamsin soon finds herself disguised as a lady's maid in the terrifying mansion of the evil Knight family, avoiding the watchful eye of the vicious matron, La Spider, and fending off the advances of Liam Knight. As time runs out, both families square off in a thrilling display of magic. And to her horror, Tamsin finally understands the nature of her fateful choice
So as I said even though I have not read book 1, I didn't feel like I was missing any major story. I still got to know the characters and things were still explained.

Tamsin is such a beautiful name! Actually I really liked all the names Carolyn used. Rowena, Liam, Gabriel. Tamsin is an interesting character. This was a really quick easy read, I read it in one afternoon. It was light and fast pacing which was exactly what I needed after reading two serious books.

I think it probably has something to do with being book two but I would have love more background on the Talents, to get a better understanding of what it all meant. All in all I really enjoyed this book and will definitely read again. So I am looking forward to buying it when it does officially come out.

Always a Witch will be release August 1, 2011. I got the book through NetGalley, I am so thankful to the publisher Houghton Mifflin Harcourt for the opportunity to read Carolyn's book before it's release date. I am sad it took me so long to read the book, but as you can hopefully tell I really enjoyed it.

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

I have finished PRIDE AND PREJUDICE!! Another by Jane Austen. That means I have read two of her books this year. Not quite my goal! But hey, it's still progress!

I started P&P April 30 and finished November 18. That is a LONG time for me to read one book. It actually makes me question if I should even continue with my Jane Austen Project. I even read Jane Eyre in a shorter time frame.

My thoughts on the book... well I kept thinking that this book had a certain part in it. A part where Elizabeth was going for a walk and sprained her ankle and could no longer walk and Mr. Darcy happened to be horseback riding past. And that was one of my main motivations for reading P&P. I have since realize that, that scene isn't Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy, but is actually part of Withering Heights another classic book by a completely different author! (I stand corrected It's a Long Story says the part I am thinking of is part of Sense and Sensibility, which is the book I want to read next! you can also read her comment here)

I was rather disappointed we don't get to read Jane and Mr. Bennett's proposal. I was actually really sad about that. What I really enjoyed about this book is the comparison between the movie and the book and finding all the little differences. I also loved the fact that Austen ties up all lose ends at the end of the book. I think the last three chapters were my favorite. Even though I did not do individual posts on them.

I did enjoy this book much more than Jane Eyre even though it took me sooo long to read it. With taking so long to read it, it's almost like I had more time to dream about the characters and think on the story.

Can't wait to read another one. Because even if this project takes a while I still want to keep the project up. Even if that is completely contradicting to what I said at the beginning of this post!

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte

Book Club book - Jane Eyre. The girl who choose it Shannon said it's absolutely her favorite book.

So my thoughts. Sorry but spoilers are included in this review.

The beginning was slow. Actually I found most of the book to be slow. I did however find the things John Reed and his mother put Jane through to be horrendous and out right cruel. I don't understand how the servants could not be on Jane's side. At first I really struggled with all the big words that I started a definition list, just like I do/did with Pride and Prejudice. But then I just started to get really involved in the book and found I struggled less and less with the words and I was just reading quiet happily.

The first half I enjoyed much better than the second half. Even though the first half was extremely slow and slightly boring. The second half so many crazy things happened. I have to say the proposal scene was one of my favorites I have ever read. It was so wonderful. I was so excited for it I had no idea how Emily Bronte was planning on filling the rest of the pages, because I was so content with how things were going.

AND then BAM... I got sooo angry when as the Pastor is about to make the man and wife a stupid lawyer stands up and announces he is already married. I could not believe it. I totally understood Jane's reaction, she was just numb and had no idea what to think. I would have probably done exactly what she did. What a twist in the story. Jane Austen are always predictable and easy going and I expect the same from this book.

I have to say that even though I was extremely involved in the story after that. I stopped liking it. I really enjoy it, but it's not one of my favorites I don't know how people can like that huge twist. And then the fact that after she runs away and gets a fortune she STILL goes back to him and gets married. That is just insane!

And well that is most of my thoughts for now. I will do another post after book club. I just don't know what to think of the book, it kind makes me angry.

What are your thoughts??

Fallen, book one

Goodreads has a quiz about this book. I got 7 out of 10 questions right, which is actually pretty bad for having just read the book.

I simply love this cover. It is so breathtaking... well maybe breathtaking isn't the right word. But it makes me want more! I want to know why a girl with such lovely black hair is crying in the middle of a dark forest.

I really really enjoyed this book, right up until the end. It was a romance but wasn't. It didn't feel like a romance until she finds out everything at the end. After that point I didn't really enjoy the book as much.

But getting there was great. What a fabulous story. I am so intrigued and definitely want to know more especially about Luce and Daniel's past. I just love Daniel "Grigori".. or I will reword that he was a great character but I LOVE his name!! The book starts off a little slow but I found that it just caused me to be more interested in Luce's story. The only thing I feel a little unresolved about it Penn, that was abrupt (don't want to spoil so that's all I am saying) and the reference to Luce's name meaning something more than you first thing.

The ending... literally the cliffhanging ending then with two chapters at the end (which I am refusing to read... at this point) was super brutal. I did not want this book to end. So I am happy to say book two Torment is already out. (but books three and four aren't :( yet)

Happy Reading!

A Catholic Girl's Memoir

What to say about this book.

This book did it all, it made me laugh out loud until I had to explain to Mr what was happening (and then he didn't get it and rolled his eyes at me, muh men...), it also made me so sad and then super angry and then really happy. I had allot of emotions reading this book.

First off Marie Simas way of writing (and I have no idea what it is called) is fabulous. She is a lovely writer, explains things and to make you feel the range of emotions I felt while reading is ... well in short the work of an artist. That said, I thought at first that I would really relate to this book because I grew up in a crazy religious home. But I found that there wasn't much religion in the book. The religion was more of an excuse for some of the actions of the people in the book.

The book is broke into three sections. Basically three different parts of her life, childhood, young adult (college and a little beyond), and that of a woman and married life. I really enjoyed the first and last section. The things she went through and how she words things. It's so humorous but so serious. I couldn't really related at all to her young adult college life. I have never done anything she talked about and it was actually the section that made me really angry, but at the same time I understand why she did what she did. It made sense.

The first line of the book was definitely my favorite. I did a Teaser Tuesday post on it.My favorite scene was the Christmas one at the end!! But I am not sharing any details so you'll just have to read it to find out!

Sorta book related but kinda not...

Marie Simas also surprised me. She emailed me personal with her book along with the press kit and it was very exciting too when she left a comment on my Teaser Tuesday and mentioned it on her blog!! It was so wonderful to hear from her personal. Thanks to Kristina over at the Frazzled Book Nommer for giving her my email!! and a Big Thanks to Marie for letting me read your book!
