A Bit About Me

A Bit About My Reading Style
I enjoy young, fun, flirty books, with some depth, a good story line and well developed characters. I stay away from romance and the details that come with romance, so my usual reading consists of Young Adult books. I do read the occasional Adult book, but skip most indecent scenes.
I will read chick-lit books once in a while, but I can only handle some much. I really enjoy the fantasy genre of books and so most of the books I read are such. I also like culture or history/historical fiction books.

My Rating System
Everything seems to have some sort of rating system. So I thought I would share how I rate a book. I have three ways of rating

1. Will read again
meaning great book, awesome story, something I enjoyed, also was probably something I read in a matter of hours
2. Would read again but not priority
meaning I would probably read something else or new first but I would still read this again. The story was good and enjoyable
3. Won't read again
meaning I didn't enjoy the book much, for whatever reason. Reasons can range from just not my kind of story, to didn't enjoy the characters, to too much of something in the book I did like. I will usually state whatever it is in my review.

Forms of Reading
There are many different ways I read. On the Computer, EReader, or Actual Physical Book. I like to know how I got/read the book I am reviewing. So when I write the title of the book I will write one of the following beside it
1. Own
so I bought the book. If you see a book you like that I own and would like to do a swap, let me know at "the(dot)clutter(dot)box(dot)blog@gmail(dot)com"
2. EReader
I found the book online and read it through my EReader. I read almost everything through my EReader
3. Co-worker and/or Friend
someone lent me the book
4. Publisher's Gift
someone asked me to review a book they have publisher or written and sent to me. This one happens rarely

Eldest, book two

This book took me a while to read. I am not sure why, the story was fascinating, moving, entertaining, and well, a great story. I just can't/couldn't seem to get motivated to read. Same goes for writing the review. I just don't feel like it.

But it's such a good book. Eragon learns so much about himself, it's amazing. He stops whinnying and learns how to control his power. It's nice to learn about things in the first book that don't make sense, now everything adds up.

Allot of time passes in this book. I think about a year. Plus it switches between three different characters, that way you are all caught up in everyone's story until they are reunited. At first I didn't like it switching between characters, but mostly that's because when the author finished with one, he would do a cliffhanger at the end of the chapter and then move to another character. So you are just dying to know what on earth is happening to the first character. This happened everything, eventually got better. But it really made me want to skip through the book and just read one person story and then go back and read the other, so it was all one continuous story, not broken up.

I don't want to give anything away, but something happens to one character and then the ending totally surprises you and throws you off guard. It was an interesting ending. And I am glad I have the third book already.

Happy Reading!!

A Movie Review on a Book Review site... Note sure if this is a good idea or not. I stopped reviewing half ways through the movie, because I decided it wasn't worth trying to compare to the book. Actually I will re-word that it doesn't compare at all to the book, worse than most movies. Oh, well. You get to see my hand-writing...

I watched the movie as I am reading the book series. I should know better, never to watch the movies based on a book :)

Sigh

Found this on Proud Book Nerd. Thought it was fun

Do you snack while you read? If so, favorite reading snack:

no, though I will sip on a hot cup of tea

What is your favorite drink while reading?
lol I answered this one above. HOT spearmint tea, is the best when involved in a book, especially if it makes you cry.

Do you tend to mark your books as you read, or does the idea of writing in books horrify you?
I try not too. If the book has already been damaged I do, especially if it's a library book. Bad I know... but if it's undamaged I try to keep the spine from bending. Oh, and I am pretty good at memorizing what page I am on and coming back to the book

How do you keep your place while reading a book? Bookmark? Dog-ears? Laying the book flat open?
Depending I will leave it laying flat open, but most times I just look at the page I am on and remember it for the next time I open it. I have found this works (the memorization) until I have 3 or more books on the go. Because I always read on the go, if I have to book mark it's usually a receipt from my purse

Fiction, non-fiction, or both?
really prefer stories, so fiction, but I will read both

Are you a person who tends to read to the end of a chapter, or can you stop anywhere?
I can stop anywhere, but I hate doing it.

Are you the type of person to throw a book across the room or on the floor if the author irritates you?
I have done it once, and it was a horrible book. Don't remember what it was called, I think I was 15...

If you come across an unfamiliar word, do you stop and look it up right away?
Depends on my location and if I can make it make sense in the sentence. I might type it into my phone to look up late. Also sometimes I am just lazy and don't care

What are you currently reading?
book two of the Inheritance Series by Christopher Paolini called Eldest.

What is the last book you bought?
Living Vegetarian for Dummies... awesome book

Are you the type of person that reads one book at a time, or can you read more than one?
yah I read two or three, but I usually start three and focus on one and switch when I get bored.

Do you have a favorite time/place to read?
I LOVE THE SUN!! But anywhere works!

Do you prefer series books or stand alones?
Just give me a good story and I am happy

Is there a specific book or author you find yourself recommending over and over?
Well, I read lots of P.C. Cast

How do you organize your books (by genre, title, author's last name, etc.)?
hahaha well my books are currently stack on the floor by my door according to size

Eragon, book 1

I am not really sure what to say about this book. I really really enjoy it. It was a fabulous story. Amazing characters!! But it was so weird reading from a guys perspective. Like really weird, I have not read many books by male author's.

It's a different experience.

That said, the story was fabulous, lots of action. I have been learning about how things in this world work. I LOVE Elves, and even dwarfs (I always play an Elf in games...try to anyways). Dragons are a new mix because I have never read about one before. It was interesting to see how things with the dragon worked.

I sorta want to see the movie, but I am pretty sure it will be completely disappointing, especially seeing as the book meet all my expectations and succeeded them. My co-worker lent it to me, they (as in my co-worker and her husband) have read it so many times the poor book is falling to pieces. If it wasn't so expensive I would replace it for her.

Fabulous story, and I am starting the second one tomorrow!!

COMMENT
I never knew such things existed, though I am pretty sure I should have known that. Heather at the Proud Book Nerd has given me TWO awesome awards!!

The First One
If you are given this award you must first accept it by leaving a comment on the post you were nominated on. Then copy and paste the post and add it to your own blog (I had to download the photo then add it to ). List the last 5 books you read (whether you liked or disliked them, just list 'em). Then nominate your own award winners!

The Last Five Books I have read...
1. A Goddess of Partholon Series by P.C. Cast
2. Forbidden Game Series by L.J. Smith
3. Percy Jackson and the Olympians Series by Rick Riordan
4. Blood Promise by Richelle Mead
5. Shadow Kiss by Richelle Mead
I decided to make everything Series, otherwise all you would see is the five books of the first one listed and that would be boring. Yikes I read allot of series.

I am nominating
The Magical Chip Bag and Little Tiara and Keepin' It In Perspective.

The Second OneFirst is the Book Blogger Neighbor Award. I am going to pass this on to a few good neighbors, too. I am awarding this to those of you who've been my biggest supporters and really welcomed me into the book blogging world. Thank you. (If you're not on the list, PLEASE don't think I don't appreciate you. I DO. I just can't possibly list everyone. ;-) I love ALL of my neighbors!

Brighid's Quest, book 2

This one started out awesome. I loved Brighid as a character and her mission was fabulous. She is a deep and thoughtful 'person' and she wants to help her friends succeed. My favorite character in the book was Liam, he is so wonderful and cute!! I wish he had had more parts in the book. I love Cuchulainn and Brighid opinion of children too, I am way more extreme then them, but it was neat to see things from their prespective on kids.

The magic part of the story was a little odd, because there was nothing like it in the other 4 books. Which makes me wonder why the change. I can understand it, because before we were always looking at things from Epona's Choosen perspective, this time we were seeing things from a Shaman's side. Shaman's maybe see more magic than Epona's Choosen. It was also a little weird how Epona changed one person's powers mid-way through the story. I suppose it's possible, but it felt out of place. And then the character still didn't really change his opinion of his powers, so to me it made no difference.

The book felt like it was building and building and building for this momentual ending and then it fell short (at least for me it did). The ending to me should have been a whole other book with lots of drama. It was all backed into one book which made it seem quickly written and not fully developed. It started out as such a good story, I was a little disappointed with the ending. The sad part is the book didn't even really end. The epilogue clearly makes it sound like there is another book coming.

On the Series as a Whole
It was a well written Adult story. I don't think I would ever read books 1 and 2 again (just to many adult scenes for me to handle). Books 3 and 4 were my favorites. I am very thankful for this opportunity to read such a good series. P.C. Cast is definitely my favorite author.

Thanks to MIRA publications for giving me the chance to review this series!! Brighid’s Quest (published May 2010) You can be purchase all books at Amazon.co.uk here for £6.99.

Happy Saturday!

Elphame's Choice, book 1

I have to say, I don't like how there isn't that much information about these books on the web. Seriously I can't find links to a fan page or even a proper website stating the order in which the books go. It's sorta frustrating. It also makes me realize I depend way to much on the internet for my information. :)

I am so glad I didn't get distracted and disappointed in the first two books. Because seriously this series, just keeps getting better and better. I thought the last book was my favorite, I was wrong, this was definitely my favorite. I LOVED Elphame, she was such a relate-able character. I love her ambition, she has goals and she's going to accomplish it no matter what. She wishes for people's approval, but doesn't want to be worshiped, just treated like a normal girl. The thing she wants the most is people's trust and respect.

The story starts off again with Epona's chosen giving birth to Elphame. This time the birthing wasn't as gross as the last book and nobody died during (not to say I still would have minded skipping that). Elphame is born very different from her peers and that is what makes her stand apart. Epona's blessing is a double edge sword in my opinion, it is a great honour to have the blessing of a Goddess, but it is also the reason Elphame is worshiped, something she truly hates.

This time there is none of the original characters, it's actually 125 years afterward's. There is no longer thoughts of war or even Fomorians. But things change as Elphame returns to MacMallan Castle. Oh at the beginning of the book there is a map of Partholon, that was super nice to see, because I got to understand the actual lay out of the land.

There is many wonderful characters in this book. But I don't want to give anything away. If you can get it, be sure to read it, I really enjoyed it!! MIRA publishes the book and sells it for £6.99!

Oh, and be sure to check out yesterday's Teaser Tuesday on this book!!

Brenna refused the smile that hovered just beneath the surface of her face. The virile young warrior had never looked as appealing as he did at that moment when he was tousled, milky and smelling of wolf dung.

Divine by Blood, book 3

Most definitely my favorite book out of the series. I loved the characters, I enjoyed the story, I even cried a little book at the beginning. There is allot of death in this book (hence the crying), lots of sadness and you are immediately drawn emotionally to the characters, especially to Morrigan. Though the story switches between our world and Partholon, it's done well and you don't get mixed up and confused as to who's story your following.

This time the story is about Rhiannon and Shannon, it dwells instead on their daughters, mostly Morrigan. Morrigan grows up under the care of Shannon's father and step-mother. Grandpa (or G-pa) and Grandpa (or G-ma) are most definitely my favorite characters. Their outlook on life is refreshing. I wish everyone was as open to things as they are. G-pa especially feels very deeply for things, such as his granddaughter and her life.

I really enjoyed this book because it wasn't so focused on sex as the second book was. Though reading about childbirth is something I could have passed on, the story was so good, I don't even mind that part. (I still wonder why people would want an 'evil' little creature inside, but that's another topic)

Anyways, fascinating tale. I would love to learn more about the Partholon culture and also Adsagsona. I would if Adsagsona and Epona actually based on true Gods or Gooddess. Maybe something to research later :)

I am off to sit in the sun and read the next book!!
